Melissa A. Essary, professor and former dean of Campbell Law School, will join Everett Gaskins Hancock Tuttle Hash LLP as special counsel effective December 1, 2012. Professor Essary is now in her seventh year at Campbell Law, having served as dean for six years before becoming a full-time member of the faculty in July 2012. As dean, Professor Essary oversaw the relocation of Campbell Law School to Raleigh from Buies Creek in 2009. Campbell Law flourished under her leadership, significantly increasing its profile across the state and region and attracting an ever-growing number of highly qualified faculty and students, all the while holding true to its tradition of rigorously preparing its students for the practice of law. Professor Essary currently teaches Employment Law courses. Professor Essary has earned numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions to North Carolina’s legal profession and to the greater Raleigh community. Her recent honors and activities include, but are not limited to: the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism; Vice President of the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association; the Board of Directors of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce; Woman of Justice Award 2012, awarded by North Carolina Lawyers’ Weekly; Member, Community Advisory Board, Junior League and the Center for Community Leadership (2012-present). Professor Essary is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and a magna cum laude graduate of the Baylor University School of Law. She began her career as a trial attorney litigating complex commercial cases in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, before joining the Baylor Law faculty in 1990. Professor Essary taught at Baylor until 2006, earning numerous honors and recognitions, before coming to North Carolina in 2006 to serve as dean of Campbell Law. *Melissa A.
