Biography

James Hash represents businesses and individuals in a variety of commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts throughout North Carolina. James has tried and arbitrated cases both as plaintiff and defendant. His recent litigation matters include breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair and deceptive trade practices, construction matters, and shareholder disputes. James also litigates estate disputes and represents creditors in both state and bankruptcy court, including in contested foreclosure actions. James is a N.C. Dispute Resolution Commission Certified Civil Superior Court Mediator.

James grew up in the mountains of Alleghany County, N.C., and attended UNC-Chapel Hill as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, majoring in both United States history and journalism. After earning his master's degree in teaching from UNC in 2001, James spent the next four years teaching history and coaching football and baseball at Northern High School in Durham. In 2005, James left teaching to attend Campbell Law School, where he graduated cum laude. James began his practice with Everett, Gaskins, Hancock & Stevens, LLP in 2008 before joining Everett Gaskins Hancock LLP in 2010. James became a partner in EGH in 2015 and has served as managing partner since 2019.

James currently serves as president of the Tenth Judicial District Bar (Wake County), as a member of the Wake County Legal Support Center Advisory Board, and as a board member of Bull City Little League. In addition to spending time with his wife, Kristi, and their children, Wren, Liam and McKinley, James enjoys reading history and coaching youth sports, particularly baseball.
