Biography
James began his practice with the firm of Everett, Gaskins, Hancock & Stevens, LLP, as an associate in 2008, where he focused primarily on commercial litigation and bankruptcy prior to joining Everett Gaskins Hancock LLP in 2010. James became a partner in the Firm in 2015, and became managing partner in 2019.
James grew up in the mountains of Alleghany County, N.C., and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, majoring in both United States history and journalism. After earning his master's degree in teaching from UNC in 2001, James spent the next four years teaching history and serving as an assistant football and baseball coach at Northern High School in Durham.
In 2005, James left teaching to attend the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, where he graduated cum laude. While at Campbell, James served as a comments editor of the Campbell Law Review, participated in both national and international moot court competitions, and was elected to Phi Kappa Phi.
In addition to spending time with his wife, Kristi, and their children, Wren, Liam and McKinley, James enjoys reading history and coaching youth sports, particularly baseball.
