Both of the firm’s founding partners, Ed Gaskins and Gerry Hancock, learned their profession from strong mentors (Gov. Terry Sanford, Hugh Cannon, and Robinson Everett). As a result they have practiced mentoring and made it central in the professional development of younger lawyers within and outside the firm. In addition, Ed has been a strong supporter of and key player in the Connections mentoring program for Campbell Law students and new Wake County lawyers, developed jointly by Campbell Law School and the Wake County Bar Association. Jason Tuttle and James Hash have also participated in Campbell Law’s Connections program and Jason and Ed have more recently become involved in mentoring through the Christian Legal Society with UNC Law School. At EGH, mentoring is recognized as an essential part of a lawyer’s professional responsibility.
